The Affenpinscher Club
Patella (Kneecap) Testing Scheme
The Affenpinscher Club has introduced a testing scheme for Patella Subluxation (slipping kneecap) which is a condition known to affect the breed. The relevant form can be downloaded here online or is available from the Club Secretary.

The Affenpinscher to be tested should be taken to the vet of your choice who will check the details of the dog against it's Kennel Club registration document and confirm identification - microchip or tattoo. Following examination of the dog using the Putnam (1968) Scoring System, the vet should complete and sign the form.
A copy of the fully completed form signed both by the owner and the examining vet should be sent to the Club’s Health Co-ordinator as detailed on the Putnum Scoring System document. If the owner agrees the result will be forwarded by the Health Co-ordinator to the webmaster for inclusion in the list of tested Affenpinschers below.
The Club’s aim is to have as many Affenpinschers as possible screened using the scheme but certainly dogs (males and females) to be used in breeding programmes should be tested prior to mating. The optimum time for testing is between 12 and 24 months. Dogs can be tested from 12 months onward with no maximum age limit.
There is no anaesthesia or X-rays involved - just 3 essential but easy steps.
- Have your dog micro-chipped or tattooed (if not already done).
- Take your Kennel Club Registration Document.
- Download the form (or contact the Secretary for one).
