The Affenpinscher Club Open Single Breed Show

13th February 2010

Judge Christopher Hayes (Attila)

It was a pleasure to be able to judge this show. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of heads and mouths. We have come on a lot recently and we deserve a pat on the back for that. Not so good in some instances was the square form of the dogs with longer backs and angulation coming in that takes away from this characteristic squareness which is a base principal in our standard. I happily however managed to find some really good exhibits.

I am pleased to say that most dogs were shown in a clean well groomed state however some weren't. You know who you are.

Class 1 – Minor Puppy Dog (8,1A)

1st Marlow’s Kilbarchans’ Schwarz Copy (BP) – This is a nice boy. Good head and mouth. Good coat coming on. Nice overall size and compact with good tail set and carriage. Moved well with a characteristic movement and sound. Straight back end completed the picture on the stand. One to watch for the future.

2nd Beale and Hills Scalene Barnacle Bill with Jarube – Nice boy slightly less mature than 1. Again good head and compact body with a good coat. Moved well and soundly.

3rd Pirrie and Browns Orlock After Dark at Brandbush

Class 2 – Puppy Dog (4,1A)

1st Gruningers Darkle Dominion – Nice lad with good head of nice size and correct mouth. Good body shape and good coat harsh and dark. Very square and moved well. Needs to mature more but will be a stunner I think.

2nd Beale and Hills Scalene Barnacle Bill with Jarube

3rd McEvoy and Harveys Aventgarde Citizen Smith for Balata

Class 3 – Special Junior Dog (5,0A)

1st Croockstons Rattertat Shaggy Inkcap – Nice head with a dark eye and characteristic shape. Nice short neck leading to a good body shape. Good coat and harsh texture. Moved clumsy at first but when moved on a more relaxed lead moved excellently.

2nd Todhunters Pennington Mungo Jerry – Nice head with good dentition and a short neck leading to a well formed body. Moved well and lovely character. Very close to 1.

3rd Mumbys Carmichan Brightest Star

Class 4 – Junior Dog (5,1A)

1st Croockstons Rattertat Shaggy Inkcap .

2nd Harvey and McEvoys Carmichan Chucamental for Balata – Very pleasing to see so many good heads and this no exception with dark eyes nice ear set. Nice size to this boy with a good body and correct coat. Moved well with a front leg lift showing our classic step.

3rd McGills Wintercloud Rockerfeller

Class 5 – Yearling Dog (7,2A)

1st Wiggins Scapafield Swartz Legacy – Classic head with wide mouth and good dentition with the correct length of nose and eye nose placement showing the equal triangle, very difficult to get it all correct in the head at once but this dog has. Good body with correct coat harsh and dark and plenty of body too. Very square and moved well with soundness. Lots of character and nice small feet.

2nd Harvey and McEvoys Carmichan Chucamental for Balata.
